A projector for home cinema

You have sufficient perspective to your living room and would benefit from a high diagonal to watch HD movies.

In that case, here are the elements that will need to make your choice:

  • Your model must support HD resolution for such use: at least 720p, 1080p for the most demanding;

  • In order not to hinder your cinematic experience, the device must issue the least possible noise. From 35 or 30 dB, the gene is real;

  • The brightness the projector must be adapted to the environment in which it is used;

  • A HD connectivity, HDMI type, is finally necessary.

The format Projection is also an important criterion: the model of your choice will be able to view a 16/9 signal to make the most of your movies or even some TV programs that are broadcast in this format.

About the brightness, it is measured in lumens. More room will be clearer, this value should be significant. So count of 1000, at least in 2000 or 3000 lumens for the least suitable conditions.

Similarly, contrast is an important consideration: in the value of 800: 1, blacks are very faded. The connectors must at least include a HDMI to connect a Blu-ray player for example.

Finally, be aware that some 3D models come gradually on the market and allow you to enjoy Blu-ray first available.

A projector for business use

You want to set up a way to project images of large sizes at meeting within your company.
Pro projector
With this in mind, here are the criteria to favor at the time of purchase:

  • A resolution 4/3, essential for PowerPoint presentations, including;

  • A limited weight, so you can take your projector out of your premises;

  • A high brightness, again, to ensure proper display even in difficult conditions.

On this last point, also know that more your audience is, the more the brightness of your screen will be important, especially to take a very important screen size.

The dimension of the projected image may differ significantly from 3 to 12 m for some models. Know this diagonal adapt to your use and keep in mind that the larger the image size, the more defects are visible.

If 4/3 is necessary, the resolution may itself vary 800x600 pixels or higher, up to 1280x1024 pixels for the most efficient models.

Which technology to choose?

chip DLP
If LCD technology has largely been abandoned in favor of the tri-LCD, DLP alternative (for Digital Light Processing) Will seduce the most demanding of you. Indeed, this technology has the advantage of offering higher brightness as tri-LCD with equal power, and especially much better contrast.

In addition, the operation of the DLP exclude the presence of dead pixel as one can find with the tri-LCD. Nevertheless, the latter technology is much cheaper.

The question of the lamp

projector lamp
Representing up to 30% of a video projector, the lamp is an element of the utmost importance to your device.

To prolong its life (which can range from 2000 to 6000 hours in the best case), make sure your projector allows an "eco mode" that will save some your lamp at the cost of slightly lower brightness.

Also note that Xenon lamps produce more accurate colors than the UHP models (for Ultra High Performance) But have a lesser life.
